How a project begins at the studio

Before drawings, we want the people, the budget, and the rooms that have to work on a Tuesday. This is the sequence we use with new clients in Chennai.

EARN Interiors has been designing homes and offices in Chennai since 2012. The projects differ. The start of a project does not. We would rather spend the first meetings understanding the household than presenting a style that has to be walked back later.

The first conversation

Bring the floor plan if you have one, and a few photographs of the empty rooms. Tell us who lives there, which room is used most, and which part of the house currently frustrates you. A tight kitchen, a bedroom with no storage, an office that has to look composed for clients: those are the problems the design has to solve.

We also ask for a budget that is real. Plans that ignore it produce drawings nobody can build. A complete interior, done in a sensible order, is more useful than one fashionable room and an unfinished rest of the house.

What happens next

  • We visit the site when the plan on paper does not match the walls, windows, or ceiling points.

  • Rooms are taken in an order: the ones you use every day first, then the rooms that can wait.

  • Materials are chosen for cleaning, humidity, and the light in that specific room.

  • You see the work as it moves, so the decisions stay yours.

Residential or commercial, the aim is the same. The interior should mirror the people who use it, and it should still work on an ordinary Tuesday. If that is the brief, the studio in Madipakkam is the place to start.
