Pooja Units, False Ceiling

What a false ceiling is actually for

A ceiling is not decoration added at the end. Cove light, fan points, and the height you still have left decide whether a Chennai room feels open or closed in.

False ceilings are often treated as the last decision in a project, a border of gypsum added so the room looks “done”. In our work they are part of the lighting plan. They also decide how tall the room still feels once the fan, the AC, and the wardrobe top are in place.

Keep the height you need

Many apartments we see in Chennai already sit close to a comfortable ceiling height. Dropping the whole room by several inches makes the wardrobe loom and the fan feel low. We prefer a perimeter cove, or a drop only above the zone that needs it: the living seating, the dining table, the pooja, the bed. The centre of the room stays higher.

Fan hooks, AC drain lines, and the positions of downlights are marked before the carpenter closes the frame. Moving a light after the paint is the expensive way to learn this.

Light for evening, not for a showroom

  • Cove lighting along the seating wall, dim enough to leave on through the evening.
  • A few focused lights over a work surface, a study, or a kitchen counter.
  • Almost no lights aimed at a television or a glossy wardrobe shutter.

The ceiling finish itself stays quiet: a clean gypsum edge, a simple paint, sometimes a wood or fluted band where the joinery below already uses that material. The ceiling should explain the room’s light. It does not need to compete with the furniture.
